As the project’s architect, we were engaged immediately after a snowstorm damaged both the McNeilus Truck manufacturing center’s office building and a portion of the production facility. Our redesign prioritized strengthening the connection between the office and manufacturing operations, creating spaces that directly support production, training, and day to day coordination. The new two story office building includes workspaces for engineering staff and facility managers who collaborate closely with the manufacturing floor, along with a new breakroom and restrooms to serve both office and production teams. Central to the design is a suite of training spaces—three small training rooms plus a two story training area large enough to bring in full size trucks—allowing employees to receive hands on instruction directly adjacent to the active manufacturing environment. The result is an office facility intentionally crafted to enhance workforce development and operational efficiency across the entire manufacturing campus.

As the project’s architect, we redesigned the existing two story corporate office, breakroom, and locker room with a strong emphasis on supporting the manufacturing workforce and R&D activities. The remodel replaced the outdated 1980s environment with modernized office spaces and collaboration rooms that strengthen daily coordination between engineering, management, and the production floor. A new, expanded breakroom and fully upgraded locker room were designed to better serve manufacturing employees, offering improved comfort, functionality, and workflow as they transition between production and support areas. The refreshed entrance sequence, integrated elevator, biophilic elements—including a living wall—and new storefront windows all contribute to a healthier, more energizing environment that enhances both employee well being and operational efficiency.

As the project’s architect, we redesigned the former Johnson Outdoors building to create Herdstar Manufacturing’s new production focused facility. The remodel centered on optimizing the manufacturing areas—including assembly zones, product storage, and dedicated shipping and receiving spaces—ensuring efficient workflow and operational clarity. While the project also incorporated office and support spaces, the primary design emphasis was on creating a streamlined, functional industrial environment that supports Herdstar’s production needs and enhances overall facility performance.
